My biggest take away from the class, and the thing that I hope to take with me in all my art practices is, living in the in-between. How can you complicate things for yourself, and find challenges to your own ideas and beliefs? Most importantly, how can you make sure that work is informed by all of this, not just the things in support of your ideas but also the things seemingly against it. Never resting in places of polarity, because these are places of comfort and comfort is never the way things get done. You never want to rest on your laurels, and must always be willing to hear from all sides. To do anything other than that is to only see half of the picture, and if you only see half of the picture you can't hope to change the whole. It is vitally important for me in my own art as an actor that I strive to live in the in-between to try to understand all people from all walks of life. When presented with a character that I don't fully understand or who may be different from me in many ways, if I just work with my own judgements I will end up creating a 2 dimensional caricature and not an actual living breathing human being. I must live in the in-between, in the uncomfortable but hopefully prosperous place.
