My biggest take away from this class has been the power and audacity I now feel in my ability to create work. When we first started brainstorming our projects, the amount of ideas and the projects that others did seemed so out of reach for me, and it seemed impossible to even begin to create something of that caliber. But from the work we explored this semester, from the exhibition at the Annenberg to CalArts’s very own Marissa Williamson I gained inspiration and realized that it’s not impossible to create something that combines art with activism. Through my research paper I developed a fascination and interest in the affect of theatre in prisons, something that I had always been curious about but never had the platform or resources to explore fully. Just by creating project goals, I realized not only the tremendous work it would take, but the fact that of it is completely achievable.
