Idea Seeds for Arts in Prison Project:
·
Ideal would be to somehow craft an art
gallery/performance of artwork created by prisoners in a more public gallery,
but realistically I’d want to start smaller
·
Researched volunteer opportunities on the Arts
in Prison website, and it’s very easy to become involved. They rely on volunteer
instructors to lead the arts programs, as well as students. They put on yearly
Shakespeare productions that would be wonderful to go see and support. However
they are located in Kansas, so I did some more research about more local
programs
·
Found The Prison Arts Collective, which “serves as a national network for prison arts in
the United States. Through extensive online outreach and organizing, PAC
provides support, information, and partnership opportunities within the
American prison arts sector.”
·
I subscribed to their email list and blog, and
have been receiving weekly news updates and opportunities
·
Found a wealth of resources and opportunities in
California through their websites; began by donating to the Prisoners
Literature Project, which donates books to prisoners and is entirely volunteer
run
