-What is the point of hope without action?
- Why are masculine ideas, energies, etc... Associated with men, and feminine associated with woman?
- What can I do to remind myself to be more vulnerable in situations where I may be triggered to do the opposite?
My vision for hope at this moment has a lot to do with vulnerability. Similarly to Junot, I grew up in a home where these patriarchal ideas where prominent. Vulnerability (especially in my fathers case) was something overlooked, and even obscured. This is something that I continue to be more aware of as I grow, and as I spend time around diverse groups of people such as CalArts. My unwillingness to be vulnerable in a given situation has really come back to bite me in countless ways. It's why I asked the question I asked above. I know in my mind that vulnerability is necessary, but when it comes down to it, when I'm living in the moment, I'm unable to practice this, and so I fail and pride takes over.
I also believe that radical hope has a lot to do with taking action, because as we discussed in class; not much can happen without actions. So why hope if you don't take action? Action can also be a very vulnerable thing to do. Sometimes I don't do what I want because it may be embarrassing for me, or weird, or whatever. However, that's no way to live. If you're living in that way, love cannot exist, and neither can hope. Maybe a better question to ask is whether or not hope can exist without love? Maybe that's the difference between radical hope, and just plain hope. Hope can exist on it's own, but it can really hurt you. There have been things I've had high hopes for, but it also led me to worry, and ultimately to being let down. Radical hope exists when there is action.
