This documentary made me think about the Holocaust.
Maquiladoras or ‘woman of assembly’ lose their identity in those factories.
They become objects of labor, a product of globalization, merchants that in
some point they dont serve anymore because in Asia they found “cheaper ones”.
All dressed in those colored robes, they become one, they become no-one, they
disapear but at the same time they can be identified. A system that makes you
disappear but at the same time recognizes you? That kills you but also let you
stay alive? That contaminates your body but helps your children have food at
night?
In “Maquilapolis” the message is concrete and sharp.
Revealing the strings of a machine that is full of contradictions, that accepts
injustice and insecurity but also allows dreams to happen. The authors use
direct action to bring light to a dark case and to expose explotation of
humankind. This way, we can start re-imagining what it is possible and feel the empowerment to fight for our rights.
