I thoroughly enjoyed reading through the methodologies behind 'Beautiful Trouble' and analyzing the different strategies that each section of the website had to offer in regards to aiding 'creative action. One principle that particularly struck me was to 'challenge the patriarchy as you organize', in this article, the patriarchy is defined as 'a system of unequal power relations that gives men privileges in all areas of our lives'. As women we constantly face a battle of proving our worth within all areas of society, the article lists five ways in which sexism manifests its way in the workplace. We constantly talk about how we battle the patriarchy but HOW is it that we do that? According to 'Beautiful Trouble' we must find ways to create a 'pro-feminist' community, examples for achieving this include: 'including woman's voices' and 'breaking the silence around sexual violence'.
Furthermore, 'advanced leafleting' would be the tactic i would use in order to campaign for something. The definition of 'advanced leafleting' is to integrate creativity into the old strategy of simple leafleting. The article suggests that one example of 'advanced leafleting' would be to 'climb on a guys shoulders and hand out leaflets'. What I would contribute to advanced leafleting would be to get creative with the leaflet itself and challenge what the idea of a leaflet is, perhaps a performance advertising a production.
Finally, my chosen theory is that of 'anti-oppression'. Defined by 'Beautiful Trouble' as a 'practice that provides framework for constructively addressing and changing oppressive dynamics as they play out in our organizing'. It is vastly important to target oppression in all senses and examples of the word and to be able to see it in OUR own communities, not just THEIRS. By targeting oppression within our own environments we are able to create a fairer community on a small level and thus working to create a community of equality on a larger level.
