Radical Hops Is Our Best Weapon

My vision for radical hope is that people stop to be silent and fight against the fear of getting yourselves into difficulties. People should have vulnerability and feel free to express what you were really thinking and what you feel no matter what you are thinking is against the mainstream society or the supremacy. Misaligned is a virtue and it is natural to get negative. Don’t only take account of your own interest, but take care of your community, neighbourhood, think about who you love and be generous.  Learn to love and trust. Think yourself as a social creature and not an individual inhuman. Make works for better understanding our societies. Fight for multiplicity, democracy, justice, and humanity to break every chain from the utilitarianism and the folks who already have power and have already shown us how little they can do for us.
Questions & thoughts:

  1. What is the New World Project Junot Díaz mentioned several times?
  2. What can we do today as an artist? What're the steps?
  3. I know the racist and white privilege suck. Racial problem and identity are always the main topics discussed at CalArts, and mostly focusing on black culture. As an Asian, I feel uneasy to be categorized as “coloured.” I am yellow, so whatever I do and care must be related to my Chinese identity and Asian culture. I value my Chinese background and I think that is what makes me unique, but I don’t want to be judged by that.
  4. Is it necessary to be radical? As my personality, I value harmony and peace. I don’t like having the conflict with others, so I tend to avoid argument and try to be calm and rational when I face problems. I don’t want use harsh word to hurt or against anyone. Should I change to be more radical to fit into the room? I know I should not keep silence because of the fear of getting into troubles. I am not black and LGBT, so how should I show my voice as an outsider?
