Radical Hope -Junot Diaz

Observation:
Hearing Mr. Diaz words "we were not in charge of our bodies," also "to fall in love, when you have historically been denied love, the right to just connect to the body which you have chosen and that has chosen you, means that an act of love is not only revolutionary, it’s not only transcendent, but it is the deific. It is Godlike. Moreover, "silence was our inheritance"

Listening to this interview made me realize how we remain comfortable  in silence. It seems pretty clear the atrocities committed against the people of African decent and others, has sent this nation on a downward spiral. We all can see as Mr. Diaz mentioned the economic and political systems are damaged. I agree that we are paying the price for it as a nation. The people and the earth are crying out from being crushed under the pressure.

After hearing Junot Diaz speak precisely about being a master of silence, how our society rewards those that devour the most, and our hyper consumption problem, which all will reap havoc on our bodies and the world, a few questions came to mind.

How can I connect more building the community that he is speaking of? How am I contributing to the change that’s desperately needed to reject the hate and modern day oppression in its many forms? How can I contribute more effectively learning from my ancestors? Our small contributions separately and collectively can produce positive results. I agree putting our hope in one another; everyday survivors, can birth radical hope.

My radical hope:
We have a responsibility to one another and ourselves to resist hate and discord, and to heal our planet. It starts with each of us making a conscious decision to be present with our choices of what we support and believe in. We have to follow through with action by breaking our silence, speaking up and doing what’s right.

My faith is strong and I feel love is more powerful than hate. Again, if we collectively and individually chose to love instead of hate, we can help alleviate some of the pain.
