Project Idea Seeds by Ruben Rubio

-In 1999 the U.S. Baltimore Orioles and the Cuban All-Star baseball teams played two games (one in Cuba and one in the U.S.).  The two games were the first played in each other’s soil since 1959.  Sports brings people from different cultures together to compete in an environment where politics is forgotten at least for the duration of the competition.  The Olympics is a great example of sports uniting people from all over the world.

-The U.S. trade embargo was in place when the U.S.-Cuba baseball games were played and they generated revenue?  Having more of these games creates jobs and entertainment for both countries.

-In the 2017 Major League Baseball World Series the L.A. Dodgers have a popular Cuban player, Yasiel Puig who’s talent and persona has allowed the Dodgers to be in the first championship game since 1988.

-How important is it to play sports (baseball or boxing) in Cuba?  How do athletes get affected when they only play their sport in one country?

-How many Cuban players are there in the MLB?

-What kind of performance would this be?  Do I need bats, gloves, baseballs, uniforms, flags?

-Can this be performed on a baseball diamond or in a theater?

-Do sports bring unity between two countries?

-A Cuban and American performer can begin walking onto the stage and they find baseball equipment on the ground.  They face each other and begin to bond through the use of the baseball equipment.

-Can this performance encourage a diverse audience to get involved in a baseball game?
